Scandinavian Style

We should talk more about the Scandinavian style because it’s so comfortable, uncomplicated to wear, but still sophisticated. The Scandinavian styling gives women an opportunity to feel stylish even during 16-hour day. And what impresses me the most about Scandinavian woman is that, although they create a look very scrupulous and thoughtful, their styling gives that effortless look impression, like they are so fabulous without ‘’trying to hard’’.

So what is the Scandinavian style?

Though the main thing about the Scandinavian style is minimalism, it’s way more than just black and white. There is plenty of playfulness and experimentation too. Minimalism of Scandinavian isn’t classic minimalism: it’s special, unique and bold. In the latest years it became even bolder: more colors, more patterns and adventurous mixes. So if I need to describe the Scandinavian style in short, I would say it’s non-cold minimalistic style with touch of latest trends and excitement.

Foundation pieces of a Scandinavian wardrobe

The key to dressing like a Scandinavian is investing in great high-quality timeless pieces you use every day. They always have a good base of uncomplicated basics. The outfits are usually built around these classic items and updated with trendy or exciting accessories. This outfit scheme gives you an opportunity to wear the same white shirt over and over again and still look different. And you might wear the same white shirt as ten other girls on the street, but you will wear it in your own interesting way. It’s all about having great basics and fun details!

Basics

Here is a rule ‘’less is more’’! Basic pieces are most minimalist, simple, quite often oversized and gender neutral. Scandinavians prefer quality instead of quantity, so basics are in high quality (Keep in mind, that high quality das not mean a high price!). While all basics are simple and classic, they are not complicated to combine and help you avoid ‘’have nothing to wear’’ crisis. Here are some basic pieces that all Scandinavians have: perfect fitting jeans, cashmere or wool sweater, white tee shirt, white button down shirt, suit pants, classic blazer, coat, leather jacket. And they love comfortable shoes. Sneakers are worn almost everywhere:  with dresses, skirts, jeans, pants, and shorts. Not only that they are comfy, they can provide a completely different look for outfit.

Details

In the Scandinavian style accessories are of equal importance to the clothes. One small detail can change everything. A monochrome outfit may be transformed into the outfit, suitable for a full working day and for the party with friends just by adding appropriate accessories. It can be a bang-on-trend eyewear, an original bag, bold footwear or statement jewelry.
For example a simple hair bow can instantly give a cute, romantic look. Try to wear red high heels with boyfriend jeans and sporty sweater. Take a scarf instead of a belt, wear glitter socks in sandals or just mix different materials. You should go bold here, because these details give uniqueness for your outfit.
You must keep in mind that make-up and hair style is very important too. Scandinavians stay with natural looking styling most, that supports already mentioned effortless look impression. Light, a little bit messy curls, simple braid, natural looking make up – that is what you’ll see the most. Although they really like red lipstick, mostly it is combined with decent eye make-up or casual clothes.
